Buzzword in the Blogosphere, 4 Dec 07

December 4th, 2007

Our new release of Buzzword, preview 6, has sparked some comments. Ryan Stewart blogged on ZDNet about our new features and thinks the most significant are exposing the URL and grabbing the buzzword.com domain. Our own Buzzword blog and this very blog give more detailed descriptions of what’s new. And Amit Arwal at Digital Inspiration blogged about the new features in preview 6.

Tad Staley and I did an email interview for InfoQ.com in which we described the process of choosing Flex as the platform, some of the technical and design challenges we encountered, and where Buzzword is headed post-acquisition.

We’re really excited that educators are picking up on Buzzword and how it can be used in the classroom. Andy Guess at InsideHigherEd.com talks about Buzzword in the context of the future of hosted applications. Educational Origami posted a short review of our user interface and a movie of Buzzword in action. Yancy says “this is the most exciting technology I have come across in a while!” Sharon Peters said, “Move over Google Docs!”

At the Virtual Ubiquity office-closing party, Dan Brickin recorded a video podcast with me, Mike Kraley, Rick Treitman, and David Mendels.

Rich Tretola at EverythingFlex wrote about a new Flex-based office suite called Live Documents, and reminds us that Buzzword didn’t make it to a public launch before being acquired. Luis Menchu at Vibrant Journey noticed the Skip button in our list formatter. Mark Montgomery, technical editor at Videomaker Magazine, says Buzzword is online word processing at its best, but wonders if connected word processing could be an open door for controlling our right of freedom of speech. Tiffany Brown says Buzzword is the most robust web word processor available. And Tim Anderson talks about Flash vs. AJAX in the context of online word processors.
